A citizen’s duty escapes no one
I recently served jury duty and was thinking about a priest friend who had recounted his experiences last year on a trial jury. It seemed odd that a priest would wind up in the jury box, though I don’t know why. but then I also have an attorney friend (now a judge) who told me about her three times on jury duty. I would say everyone is called, but some regular citizens aren’t, while others get tapped repeatedly. Funny, how the random system works.
Even Bishop David Zubik has been called to serve (so to speak).
Diocese of Pittsburgh Bishop David A. Zubik was selected Tuesday to serve on a jury for a home invasion case in Allegheny County court.
Zubik reported in the morning to the jury room in the County Courthouse in a typical priest’s white collar with a black suit, but defense attorney John Knorr said he recognized him right away.
“After Zubik left the interview table, one of the other attorneys asked me what I thought,” Knorr said. “I said, ‘Well, we’re looking for fairness, not forgiveness.’ I think he’s fine.”
