Abortion enshrined
Truth be told, a lot of the scorn for Mother Teresa, rage at the Church and hostility for religion is really about…..abortion. Carl Olson has pieced together some revealing snips of criticism and woven them into some good analysis about “Religious Devotion to Abortion.” In particular, the devotion of author Sam Harris.
And what does this bloody sacrifice—offered on the altar of women’s rights, convenience, financial hardship, and so forth—rest upon? For a partial answer, open your atheist Bibles—Mr. Harris’s The End of Faith—to page 177:
“Many of us consider human fetuses in the first trimester to be more or less like rabbits: having imputed to them a range of happiness and suffering that does not grant them full status in our moral community. At present, this seems rather reasonable. Only future scientific insights could refute this intuition.”
I hope this gives you pause, if only to marvel that a man who claims that Christianity is irrational and barbaric believes that a human fetus is no different, on a moral level, than a rabbit. On what rational, scientific basis is this belief—and it is a belief of a most religious nature—rest? The “answer”:
“The problem of specifying the criteria for inclusion in our moral community is one for which I do not have a detailed answer—other than to say that whatever answer we give should reflect our sense of the possible subjectivity of the creature in question.”
Interpretation: “I have no idea why I believe a human fetus is no different than a rabbit. I accept it on blind faith! It simply feels right. And I want it to be true, so it must be true.” Not only that, Harris doesn’t even have a scientific, objective basis by which he can distinguish what is human from what is rabbit. He writes: “What will be our criterion for humanness? DNA? Shall a single human cell take precedence over a herd of elephants?” Well, I say we find a herd of elephants who are discussing this same topic and ask them what they think.
That nails it about as well as any one-liner could.
The abortion mentality has become the abortion culture, and it takes in a whole political and social ideology that forces its way into the mainstream by evasion and deception. Don’t have acceptable answers? Evade the questions. Don’t think you can persuade a majority of good citizens to approve of a devastating medical “procedure” or the presence of an abortion mill that does them? Lie or play word games to sanitize and sell it, then sneak the ‘clinic’ in under deceptive cover.
Why do so few abortion activists even talk to anyone other than sympathetic politicians and media about these issues? And when they have to talk to pro-life people, why are abortion activists so angry?
And, as a gentleman outside the huge new abortion clinic in Aurora, Illinois said to me this morning after a prayer service ended there, “why do they operate on such deception?” Pointing to the sign out front, he said: “It’s called Planned Parenthood, but it’s about ‘unplanned’ ‘unparenthood.’ It’s all built on a lie.”
