Boomerang comes back, after a long journey
The current MercatorNet newsletter carries this Reuters piece. It’s a most unusual story of a boomerang that returned…with a twist.
A boomerang stolen from an Australian museum by an American tourist 25 years ago has arrived back by post with a “sorry” letter from the offender. “I removed this back in 1983 when I was younger and dumber,” wrote Peter. “It was the wrong thing to do. I’m sorry and I’m going to send it back.”
The letter was read to the media by the mayor of Mt Isa, where the boomerang belongs. Mayor Ron McCullough said the man enclosed a cheque and wrote his full name and address on the parcel, but he declined to reveal Peter’s surname. “I think putting his name on it was part of his purifying effort,” McCullough said.
It’s never too late to say you’re sorry. Accountability is the ultimate destiny anyway.
