Doggy do

Another story that fits the topic of the moment is this really odd item in MercatorNet‘s Family Edge newsletter, titled “Childless Japanese Women Pamper Dog Babies.”

Here’s a snip:

Dogs in prams dressed in frilly T-shirts, dogs with their own cafes and boutiques, dogs taken on holiday to health spas — meet the child substitutes of a trend-setting group of Japanese women…

Dogs now outnumber children aged 10 and under in ageing, infertile Japan. As the number of humans shrink, the dog population is growing and with it, new consumer fads. “I’ve never seen consumption the way it is in Japan,” says the Hollywood founder of dog fashion chain Fifi & Romeo. There are more of the boutiques in Japan than in the US. Even Parisians, who like to pamper their dogs, have not yet stooped to putting them in prams.

The item had this link to a Reuters piece on “dog mummies.”

Just to finish off here…..scroll down two posts and review the decision of Leona Helmsley to leave her dog $12 million dollars, and the relief that Robert Wilson left $22.5 million to the Archdiocese of New York to help save western civilization. Thank God.
