He just really, really wants to make his point

Sen. Joe Biden’s remarks in Springfield yesterday were a preview of what the campaign trail is going to be like for the next couple of months. It will be more lively, for one thing.

And according to Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn, more lively.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama’s choice for running mate, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, used the word “literally” literally eight times in his speech Saturday afternoon, suggesting we’re in for a metaphorical deluge of misuses of “literally” this campaign season.

Among other misuses, rhetorically speaking.

And Biden is not literally a gaffe machine, though his propensity to speak without fully thinking things through or without  running his words by an editor ought to prove entertaining and, occasionally, quite invigorating.
