It’s getting hot in the Senate
…and in the media, over S. 403, the Child Custody Protection Act.
The bill would require all abortionists to ensure a minor girl’s parents were notified before performing an abortion, regardless of what state the girl was from. It would also make it illegal to transport a minor girl across state lines in order to obtain an abortion, if the girls’ parents have a right to be notified under their home state law.Â
The House passed it this week, but some Senate Democrats are obstructing it in the Senate in these late hours before they go home. If they hold off long enough, it’s defeated. What’s the problem here?
At issue in today’s debate is Senate Democrats continued meddling in the efforts of the U.S. House to protect young girls from sexual abuse and exploitation.
Why would anyone, especially a member of Congress, want to deny this protection? Especially since they’re supposed to represent the people who elected them.
LifeNews carries poll results showing that 82 percent of Americans disagree that someone should be able to take a minor girl across state lines to get an abortion without her parents’ knowledge. And 75 strongly disagree. The fact that S. 403 made it this far in the Senate is a surprise. Majority Leader Bill Frist filed a “cloture petition” on it mid-week, and it needs 60 or more of the 100 Senate votes to move to the President’s desk. He said he would sign it into law.
So which senators are not representing their constituents in this? Check yours out.
