Mt. Soledad
The Mt. Soledad War Memorial in San Diego, honoring our fallen war heroes, is in the thick of a battle and they need your help. Who are ‘they’? The Thomas More Law Center, which is leading the effort to save the 43 foot high cross at the center of the war memorial, the one that has stood there as the centerpiece of Mt. Soledad since 1954.
Until a federal district judge ruled on behalf of an activist atheist who was offended by the cross. Judge Gordon Thompson ordered that the cross be brought down by August, or the city of San Diego will pay steep fines daily.
America is 86 percent Christian, and the incoherence of this case defies description because…well…it’s incoherent. The Thomas More Center filed to the Supreme Court for an emergency stay, and Justice Kennedy granted it. That’s fine for now, but the clock is ticking.
Wednesday, July 19, Congress will hear consider intervening to make Mt. Soledad part of the National Parks system. And an online petition drive continues. See the amazing account, timeline, and related war hero stories here.
