One pregnant mother, two lives
Most major media reporting on the murder of the pregnant mother in Ohio are worded similar to this CNN news story:
former Ohio police officer accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend will be arraigned Friday on aggravated murder and other charges, a prosecutor said Thursday.
Bobby Lee Cutts Jr. could get the death penalty if convicted of killing Jessie Marie Davis and her unborn fetus.
Even with that wording, “her unborn fetus” is being recognized as the victim of murder.
But interestingly, on CNN’s morning news yesterday, Heidi Collins did the report on this story and, with apparent compassion, noted that the unborn child was a daughter who had been named Chloe.
When a doctor has a pregnant patient, he has two patients, and doctors acknowledge that. When a murder involves a pregnant woman, there are two victims. It’s good to see some responsible people in the mainstream media acknowledge that.
