The politics and ethics of stem cells

On the political side, the Senate is debating and voting on three bills this week on stem cell research funding, technology and morality, and the alternative source for pluripotent stem cells (which gets back to the technology and morality debate). This is huge, and though these things usually generate more heat than light, this time around the information flow has more clarity. Still lots of ill-informed press on this, or downright biased, but more of the lucid coverage is coming out, and folks are understanding it better.

As for the ethics and morality of the issue for pro-lifers, there’s the always clear and unapologetic teaching of the Church to ground the debate in timeless truths.

So, contact your senator at www.senate.gov and let him or her know how you expect them to vote. You elected them, and they should speak with your voice. Many of them yield to pressure. Let it be the pressure to do the right thing.
