‘Tis the season
Though it’s been re-named. The first time I recall seeing that as a child, it was when a shop had little room on its window and wrote “Xmas Sale” or something like that.
These years, it has evolved into all sorts of convoluted attempts to keep Christ out of Christmas, and the word Christmas out of the season.
So here’s a humorous approach to those retailers who are assailing your mailbox and television commercial time right now. These retailers are after your money, lots of money, which is why we just heard all the hype about “Black Friday”, the day after Thanksgiving craziness at the malls and retail stores of America. Businesses are after shoppers who are looking for great deals and bargains on all those gifts they need to get.
Which gets to the best point of that video. WHO are the targeted shoppers out to get gifts in this season? WHO is spending the money right now on lots of presents to celebrate an event? Hmmmmm??
People celebrating Christmas.
So the guy has a great idea. (Watch the video.) I’ve looked over the stacks of catalogues that have been arriving lately and he’s right, most of them call it the “Holiday” issue, and have seized on that word to (awkwardly) plug in to messages in place of the reference to Christmas. So as not to offend, you know.
No, I don’t know either, because it’s a bogus claim.
And speaking of taking Christ out of Christmas, and bogus claims…
