Tony Blair’s other changeover?
Â
There has been a lot of speculation lately that outgoing British PM Tony Blair may convert to the Catholic faith. Now, rumors are that it is imminent. Blair sort of slipped into Rome and paid a Saturday visit to Pope Benedict. CWNews has this story.
The British prime minister, whose wife is Catholic, has shown a deep and lasting interest in the Catholic faith and attends Mass regularly with his family.
Spokesmen for the prime minister have refused to comment on the speculation about Blair’s conversion, saying only that he “remains a member of the Church of England.”
The Guardian has printed an unconfirmed report that during his stay in Rome, Blair will have lunch with Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor at the English College. He would be the first British head of state ever to visit the English College, where Catholic priests were once trained to minister to the faithful in Britain during times of official persecution.
Especially poignant, the week of the commemoration of Sir Thomas More.
