What is the UN doing, anyway?!

Isn’t the United Nations supposed to somehow unite the nations, stop bullies and broker peace between warring factions? Well, that was the ideal. The reality these days is a troubled, scandal-ridden and ineffective organization. At least we have a good ambassador, though John Bolton can’t go it alone.

Even the Vatican is fed up with them. Catholic World News has a piece on this, headlined: “Vatican paper rips ‘do-nothing’ UN policy on Lebanon“. It says that the UN has “again become a spectator” as violence increases.

After rounds and rounds of talks over Iran, North Korea — which have gone nowhere — and now the Middle East, these UN resolutions resolve nothing.

Meanwhile, Pope Benedict is urging the world to pray. That’s taking it to the top Peacemaker.
