Do not be afraid
Whether this is entirely true or not, it’s a nice story. Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone is getting ready to take over as Vatican Secretary of State, and assuming that global diplomatic task right now is certainly occupying his thoughts. And apparently, a poignant dream. John Paul II gave him a blessing and told him “do not be afraid.”
“In the night of August 15-16, I dreamt about Pope John Paul II,” he told reporters. The Pope “was old and had a walking stick,” and “I asked him for his blessing for my new posting as Secretary of State.” Â
In the dream, he said, John Paul II gave him his blessing and told him that from now on he was not to have any more fear. He also revealed that his priorities as Secretary of State would include “giving attention to young people and to the promotion of a culture of peace” and to the “importance of education for non-violence.”Cardinal Bertone said the Church was a promoter of life and a mediator of peace and that would also be his task as Secretary of State.”I will do this with all my strength,” he added.Â
