Your prayers are requested

Right now, I have two friends whose fathers are in their last hours before passing into eternal life. They have asked their friends for prayers, as most people do in times like this.

Just got word that two other friends, who are sisters, are imploring all networks of friends they can reach, to join a prayer vigil today for their brother Paul. Here’s part of their urgent email:

Paul had a cancerous kidney removed in November of 2007. Then in mid-May 2008 – he was to have surgery – however, the site was too close to the spinal cord and doctors didn’t want to risk him becoming paralyzed – so, they didn’t operate.

Now, several more cancerous sites have been found.

Before all this began happening, Paul was a young, vibrant, athletic outdoorsman.

Catholics understand the practice of asking for this kind of prayerful intercession from the saints and blesseds (pre-saints, for those who aren’t familiar). Over on the right you’ll find a link to Pier Giorgio Frassati. Paul was enough like him that the family has been asking his intercession over this torturous ordeal.

Today, they’re asking friends, and friends of friends, and others of goodwill to say a prayer during this vigil between 10:30 – 7:30 (Central), for Divine Mercy for Paul. Please pass it on. Thank you, on behalf of my friends.

(Update: Just after posting this, word came in that the father of one of the two friends, in the top line here, has passed “into eternal life”. RIP)
