Aurora abortion clinic open for business

That’s probably not the most surprising thing pro-lifers took away from the announcement today that Planned Parenthood was given permission to open the abortion clinic in Aurora after all. What is surprising pro-lifers most involved there is the way it played out.

It really does appear as if the fix was in between Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner and Planned Parenthood.

I cannot believe his audacity in thinking he can unilaterally make such a monumental decision with national eyes watching sans input from the City Council or the people of Aurora.

Eric Scheidler wrote in an email a little while ago, “[I]t looks like Planned Parenthood was the first to learn about this decision – before the City Council, before the press, before the people.”

Scheidler and Families Against Planned Parenthood are connecting some dots.

After today’ press conference, to which the general public was excluded, I heard from one of the Aldermen that they, our elected officials, were NOT given the reports by the two attorneys nor Barsanti, until about 20 minutes before the 3:00pm press conference. Our Alderman were shut out. Why? Why did the city council not have an opportunity to discuss the issue and vote on it? Isn’t that what was promised to the people of Aurora?

Scheidler wonders aloud something I’ve been wondering since the city turned this over for ‘criminal’ investigation. It jarred the senses a bit to hear that Planned Parenthood’s permitting process for building this clinic was being investigated for criminal offense. At least to me. And apparently, to Scheidler.

You would think the Mayor of the City of Aurora, Tom Weisner, would be a leader. But, it seems that he has his own plan in mind when it comes to Planned Parenthood. Maybe that’s why he was sick and missed last week’s City Council meeting where almost 200 people signed up to address the City Council. I mean, who want to listen to their constituents when your mind is already made up.

When I say, “made up”, I don’t think the Mayor would issue the occupancy permit if “criminal fraud” occurred. But when was it in all the hours of 3-minute speeches to the City Council that we specifically wanted this investigation to be limited to “criminal” fraud?

It seemed downright odd that the Kane County State’s Attorney, Barsanti, was brought in. But I thought, so be it, they may have committed criminal fraud.

So when I heard the news on the radio that no criminal offense was found in this case, I wasn’t surprised. Now, I thought, let the Aurora City Council investigation into the ‘special use permit’ requirements and process continue. The real facts to be found are in the application and permitting process, which should be easy enough to sort out.

However…..making this a ‘criminal’ investigation apparently assured that it would be wrapped up like this.

You could see this coming, the Mayor’s actions that is, when it was revealed that Barsanti was only looking for criminal fraud.

So, for now, abortions will begin to be scheduled at the Aurora clinic immediately.

Meanwhile…

(When I saw that ad, I knew this was coming. It was pretty outrageous.)
