He says he’s listening to their voices

But President Obama will not put a pro-life man or woman in an appointed position of authority in his administration.

He does, however, seem to favor Catholics who support ‘abortion rights.’ The new Surgeon General is the latest.

President Barack Obama’s nominee for surgeon general is a Catholic best known for founding an Alabama clinic that treats the poor, but her lesser-known support for abortion rights puts her at odds with her church and some of the groups that have praised her work.

Regina Benjamin’s Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic doesn’t perform abortions. A clinic employee who declined to be identified said by telephone that patients seeking information about abortions would be referred to providers in the state.

But White House spokesman Reid Cherlin said Benjamin “supports the president’s position on reproductive health issues.”

And…

Obama supports abortion rights and public funding of contraception and sex education.

Cherlin continued: “Like him she believes that this is an issue where it is important to try and seek common ground and come together to try and reduce the number of unintended pregnancies.

Two things, working backwards….Does Dr. Benjamin embrace the administration’s strategy to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies: replace abstinence education with condoms and contraceptive-based sex education? And how are they seeking common ground when there are no pro-life voices at the table?
