If you’re in Chicago and free on Saturday…

and you love sports and have some spare change for a good cause…

you are invited to a cool event.

This is the kickoff (no pun intended) of the Sports Faith International initiative and induction into their Hall of Fame of ‘Papa Bear’ George Halas, former NFL wide receiver and Bears coach Danny Abramowicz, and former New York Giants right guard and Super Bowl champion Chris Godfrey.

I love sports, and really look forward to this….as an event and an ongoing organization dedicated to “showcase the intersection of sports and faith.”

Here’s their vision statement:

Sports Faith International will produce programs for Catholic and mainstream media networks that will feature some of the biggest names in the world of sports. Sports have been called a metaphor for life that can teach perseverance, discipline, loyalty, trust, dedication, and fair play. The shows will serve as a platform to discuss the many virtues and life lessons that can be learned from sports.

We’ve seen enough bad lessons in major league sports lately. About time we focus on the good. There’s plenty of that in the sports world, and thankfully we’ll be seeing and hearing more of it through this effort.
