Like shooting Bambi?!

After hearing enough political coverage from all the main networks, I turned over to the BBC to hear some international news, delivered as only they do. When the Beeb got to their own political coverage of America’s presidential race, they had a roundtable discussion among correspondents and the studio newsman.

It was a very interesting conversation, good questions and well researched answers. At one point, an analyst said that after Iowa, Hillary Clinton would probably need to come out swinging hard at Barack Obama to dismantle his newfound momentum. “Attack Obama?!” responded the anchor. “Wouldn’t that be like shooting Bambi?!” (You have to imagine that delivered in a distinguished British accent.)

So. This interesting phenomenon continues that surrounds Sen. Barack Obama with an aura of gentility and innocence. It’s easy to see why, because the man is eminently likeable and charming and classy and respectable.

But there’s this problem that hasn’t been directly addressed in the mainstream, though it comes up a lot in alternative media and certainly in the pro-life world. Sen. Obama has not defended the most innocent and vulnerable of all persons, the growing child developing in his or her mother’s womb. In fact, his record on protection of life is aggressively liberal.

Some hunters get licenses to shoot deer in season. Some politicians get on the ballot to compete with and attack other politicians in season. At least the former see what they kill.
