Reality check

Americans are polled about everything, especially politics and abortion. But if this one doesn’t state the obvious….what does it really tell us?

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that a majority of Americans backed the Supreme Court’s decision earlier this year to uphold a national ban on partial-birth abortions. The poll is consistent with other surveys showing Americans strongly opposing the gruesome abortion procedure.

Partial birth abortion is infanticide, who’s kidding whom about that? The baby is being delivered when he or she is brutally murdered. The fact that it was ever started, backed and protected in the first place is so jarring, Justice Kennedy wrote the Court’s majority opinion in graphic detail to wake up minds numbed by distorted language.

Here’s the full opinion.

Here’s an opinion about that ruling, an editorial opinion, in appreciation of the power of clear language. It carries the grim details.

After concluding the doctor’s quote, the court’s opinion continues: “This is an abortion doctor’s clinical description,” it says. “Here is another description from a nurse who witnessed the same method performed on a 26-week fetus and who testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee:

“‘Dr. Haskell went in with forceps and grabbed the baby’s legs and pulled them down into the birth canal. Then he delivered the baby’s body and the arms — everything but the head. The doctor kept the head right inside the uterus. … The baby’s little fingers were clasping and unclasping, and his little feet were kicking. Then the doctor stuck the scissors in the back of his head, and the baby’s arms jerked out, like a startle reaction, like a flinch, like a baby does when he thinks he is going to fall.

“‘The doctor opened up the scissors, stuck a high-powered suction tube into the opening, and sucked the baby’s brains out. Now the baby went completely limp. … He cut the umbilical cord and delivered the placenta. He threw the baby in a pan, along with the placenta and the instruments he had just used.’”

That’s the court’s description of “intact D&E,” or “partial-birth abortion.”

Sufficiently stunned? So not only are the backers of this brutality not hiding in a cave somewhere hoping people will forget the whole thing, they are out doing damage control for the abortion cause.

And the media are asking Americans whether they think it was a good decision to ban infanticide…?

While abortion advocates frequently paint the high court’s decision as out of step with the American public, the poll shows it is pro-abortion groups who don’t represent most people.

No kidding.
