Serene is good…

Just discovered Fr. Rick’s new blog, where there’s a good meditation on bringing serenity to troubled hearts. Great subject, serenity being in such shortage in this abundantly troubled world. Messages like these are good for the soul.

Good priests are like magnets for vocations, and for all the faithful hungry for a bold witness to faith. Good priests who honor their good bishops are really an attraction the Church needs, and that’s Fr. Rick. He’s passing along some good teaching from Bishop Morlino.

Bishop pointed out that a person of forgiveness is a person who is serene.

Here’s the well-known, well-worn prayer.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

But here’s more of it…

God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.
