The latest from Aurora
When news cameras and reporters go away from the site of a current incident or story they’re covering, the public tends to forget about that story in the daily glut of other news.
Here’s an update on the ongoing story at the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Aurora, that 22,000 square foot fortress they built under deceptive practices in the permit and land use filing process. My story is out today in the National Catholic Register (subscription required). It ends with the clinic still being closed pending the outcome of an investigation into those practices.
But the day the Register went to press, Aurora’s Mayor Tom Weisner made the surprise announcement that he was giving Planned Parenthood permission to open the clinic, which I updated here.
Families Against Planned Parenthood has some firsthand accounts from that rather stunning press conference Weisner held, along with remarks by an Aurora alderman on how badly this was handled. The city council wasn’t allowed to vote, Weisner made a unilateral decision, and it was all questionable.
Recently filed lawsuits are now in court against Planned Parenthood/Chicago. And this isn’t over, by a long stretch.
The Aurora abortion resistance movement is a case study right now of the nation’s struggle over rights – defining them, and applying them.Â
